Thank you sir! I did enjoy a decidedly low-key day on an easy hike with Laura and the dogs, then hanging with the whole family while the dogs (some medicated) dealt with the sounds of fireworks. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better day.
I was concerned about your dogs, but thought that if anyone knew how to take care of them in regards to fireworks it would be you guys.
We try drugging Alice every November (because of Guy Fawkes' Night, but it pretty much starts at Halloween and continues through for weeks) but so far it's never worked :(
It seems that "fear of booms" can be a tough fix for dogs. I kind if figure it's just such an unnatural thing...there's a lot of evolution telling them that when you hear something like that, it's something to pay attention to.
With that said, I've known plenty of dogs who hardly give it a second thought (and some that have learned to be afraid of it from more fearful housemates). It'd be a fascinating dissertation for someone out there...
Sorry to hear that Alice falls into the "tough fix" segment... :(
Hope you had a good (and safe) celebration!
